Sunday 7 June 2025 saw three Hedsor pairs visit Princes Risborough for a friendly pilot mixed pairs match, with the aim of exploring whether the fixture could become a regular annual club event.
Match One: Trevor and Sue secure a hard-earned half
Trevor and Sue faced Gill and Garry in a closely fought contest, giving just one shot. After a strong start saw them go three up after three holes, Gill and Garry battled back to reduce the gap to two at the turn. The match stayed tight through the back nine, with momentum shifting on the 14th before Gill and Garry moved ahead for the first time.
The drama continued to the 18th, where Trevor and Sue held their nerve to win the final hole and earn a well-deserved half. It was a competitive and enjoyable match played in great spirit.
Match Two: Alison helps power a strong finish
Alison and her partner Grahame enjoyed a real yo-yo of a match against Emma and Sam, finding themselves two down after the opening two holes. They fought back to level by the 5th, only to fall two behind again soon after.
One down at the turn quickly became two, but a determined finish changed the course of the match. A couple of excellent drives from Alison helped the pair win four of the last five holes and take the match by three.
Match Three: Pam and Ray enjoy a spirited contest
Pam and Ray also had a great time representing Hedsor at Princes Risborough. Their opponents started strongly, parring much of the front nine and building an early advantage.
Pam and Ray eventually found their rhythm, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome, with the match finishing 5 and 4 in favour of Princes Risborough.
Club note
Thank you to Princes Risborough for being excellent hosts. The pilot mixed pairs match was played in a friendly and competitive spirit, and Hedsor looks forward to the return fixture in 2027.
