Each year, Hedsor Golf Club proudly supports a charity close to our hearts, and for 2026/2027, we are thrilled to announce that our Captain’s Charity is the Variety Golf. This incredible service provides minibuses for disabled children’s schools
As a club, we believe in making a positive impact beyond the fairways, and we are excited to rally behind such a worthy cause. Whether through direct donations, fundraising events, or spreading awareness, your support will help ensure this critical service continues to improve the lives of disabled children across the country. Last year they provided more than 80 minibuses!
Why Support The Variety Golf?
· Providing Sunshine Coaches: A large proportion of funds raised go towards supplying specially adapted minibuses for schools and organisations supporting disabled and disadvantaged children. These vehicles enable children to access education, activities, and experiences that would otherwise be out of reach. [variety.org.uk]
· Improving independence and inclusion: Variety’s wider programmes provide wheelchairs, specialist equipment, and opportunities that help children gain independence, improve wellbeing, and participate more fully in society. [variety.org.uk]
· Giving children access to sport: Through its Golf for Disabled Children initiative, delivered in partnership with The Golf Trust, the charity introduces disabled and disadvantaged children to golf, helping them enjoy physical activity and develop confidence and life skills.
Greg Lee’s Ball Collection Efforts: Turning Lost Balls Into Life-Changing Facilities and Experiences
Our former captain, Greg for the past couple of years has managed the collection and sale of lost balls with money raised going directly to our chosen charities.
Since 2024, Hedsor Golf Club’s efforts raised significant funds for The Outward Bound Trust and the Thames Valley Air Ambulance and much of that success can be attributed to one individual’s dedication. Greg’s ball-collecting initiative is a true testament to how small actions can lead to substantial results, raising hundreds of pounds for the charity.
This year, we’re hopeful that the momentum will continue, with Greg’s efforts inspiring even more generosity. If last year’s success is any indication, we’re on track to make 2025’s fundraiser for Variety Golf even bigger and better. Every contribution, no matter the size, adds up to create an impact that can save lives.
This initiative has been a massive success, raising significant funds for the charity. What’s even more inspiring is that this simple act of gathering lost balls has now become a major contributor to our Captain’s Charity efforts. Greg’s dedication shows that every action can add up to make a big impact—just like every pound you donate
The Captain’s Charity Bunker
We’ve made it even easier to support Variety Golf during your visits to Hedsor Golf Club. The Captain’s Charity Bunker is now clearly marked with a new sign, reminding everyone to donate just £1 after their round. Every little bit adds up, and this simple act can have a lasting impact.
You’ll also find a collection tin in the clubhouse bar, where you can drop in your donation while enjoying a post-game drink with fellow members. These small contributions make a huge difference to the life-changing work Variety Golf does every day.
Let’s come together as a community and help raise the funds needed to keep this vital service running—every pound counts!
Captain’s Charity Day: A Special Event to Support Variety Golf
Mark your calendars! On September 20th, we’ll be hosting the Captain’s Charity Day, a special event dedicated to raising as much as we can for Variety Golf. This day is a fantastic opportunity to come together as a club and make a real difference in the lives of those in need.
This fun event will feature exciting activities, fundraising challenges, and of course, lots of opportunities to donate. The top prize on the day is a fourball at the fantastic Foxhills Golf Club. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just here for the day, your participation will help us achieve our goal of raising even more money to support the vital work of the Air Ambulance.
We’re aiming for a record-breaking year, and we can’t do it without your support. Let’s make September 20th a day to remember as we rally behind this life-changing cause!
Thank you all!
Jay Goodwin (Captain)
