HEDSOR GOLF CLUB’S CAPTAIN’S HANDOVER DAY REPORT 2026

, , , ,

Hedsor Golf Club’s Captain’s Handover Day took place on a gloriously sunny Sunday, providing the perfect backdrop for one of the most enjoyable and sociable events in the club calendar.

A total of 24 Hedsor regulars, organised into 6 teams, competed in a 4-person Texas Scramble—a format that encourages teamwork, strategy, and plenty of post-round discussion.

On the Course:
The course was presented in excellent condition, with fairways and greens looking particularly well despite the heavy footfall they had endured in recent weeks.

The pin placements proved testing, adding an extra layer of challenge and ensuring that no team had an easy route to victory.

The competition was exceptionally tight, with gross scores ranging from 1 under par (67) to 4 over (72). As ever, the round sparked plenty of debate, with teams reflecting on putts that just slipped by, bold tactical decisions, and the fine margins between success and frustration.

The Results:
After applying team handicaps, the competition became even closer, with three teams tied on an impressive nett 55.

Winners (nett 55, countback 27): Greg, Den, Robert Macdiarmid & Andrew Fairclough
Runners-Up (nett 55, countback 28): Bilal, Martin, Nic & Rash
Third Place (nett 55, countback 29): Dave, Richard, Bill & David Chaplin

A superbly competitive finish that perfectly reflected the quality of play across the field.

Thanks and Celebrations:
A huge congratulations goes to our returning Captain, Jay Goodwin, who once again did a fantastic job organising the event—no small feat given the timing alongside family holidays and Easter celebrations.

Off the course, Jay’s home-made chicken curry was, as ever, a highlight of the day and thoroughly enjoyed by all—a fitting way to round off a great occasion.

Final Thoughts:
Captain’s Handover Day once again delivered everything that makes Hedsor Golf Club special: great golf, friendly competition, and excellent camaraderie.

Congratulations to all who took part, wild life included —and here’s to another successful season under Jay’s captaincy!
